“Triumph and Tears” – Easter Sunday
Acts 2, Psalm 16, Isaiah 53, Luke 24 | Pastor Winston Parrish
We started Palm Sunday with the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but we also looked at this story through the tears of our Lord. 1. He wept at the tomb of Lazarus. 2. He wept over Jerusalem. 3. He wept in the Garden of Gethsemane. 4. He wept on the cross. When hell came to Jerusalem, it came for Jesus on the cross. The cross ended in blood and tears. While in the tomb, despair and hopelessness lingered. But now, it’s Sunday!
1. THE CREDIBILITY OF SCRIPTURE: Acts 2:23-25
What’s at stake in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ? What does the Resurrection prove? It proves the trustworthiness of the Word of God, the believability of the Word of God, the accuracy of the Word of God, and the truthfulness of the Word of God.
2. THE CHARACTER OF THE SON: Romans 1:1-4
Jesus voluntarily submitted Himself to do the will of the Father. All the tears, the testing, the trials, the torment, the temptation of the humanity of Christ was over! His victory over death was the supreme demonstration and most conclusive evidence that He is God’s Son!
3. THE COMPLETION OF SALVATION: Romans 4:23-25
You couldn’t do it, I couldn’t do it, nothing we have had or will have could ever pay the price! The perfect, complete work of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ leads us to the perfect complete work of salvation! We are the purchase of his blood and the monuments of his grace!
The Bible is true. Jesus is God. Salvation is complete. On the cross, hell came to Jerusalem, but Heaven came to the tomb. He rose in power. He reigns in glory. The Resurrection proves that there is hope for even you! Right now, Jesus is here, and it could be that He is calling you today to believe, repent, and rejoice.
