The Ministry of Motherhood
2 Timothy 1:1-7 | Pastor Winston Parrish
Happy Mother’s Day to every mom! Motherhood is more than just feeding mouths and folding laundry; it shapes our lives. While the world emphasizes performance and perfection, Scripture highlights something more profound.
1. POWER — She Teaches Them to Stand in God’s Strength
Timothy was struggling with fear, something that every child experiences at some point in their life. Fear is the enemy of purpose; it keeps us stuck in our comfort zones, silences our obedience, and keeps us from becoming who God designed us to be. Unjustified fear does not come from God and will never lead us to His perfect will. When we live in fear, it indicates that we trust ourselves more than we trust God!
2. PASSION — She Loves with a Christlike Heart
The love Paul describes is agapē sacrificial, covenant, unconditional love. It’s not emotional fluff; it’s spiritual fire. Lois and Eunice didn’t just raise Timothy with rules. They raised him with relational love rooted in Christ. And that love became the foundation of Timothy’s entire life and ministry.
3. PERSPECTIVE — She Shapes Their Mind for God’s Mission
Timothy needed a sound mind in a culture dominated by noise, distraction, and deception. He needed to think clearly, biblically, and eternally. And where was that shaped? At home. In the teaching and example of Lois and Eunice. They taught him how to think like a Christian before he ever led like one.
