The Ministry of Motherhood, Part 2

2 Timothy 1:1-7 | Pastor Winston Parrish

Motherhood is far more than the daily routines of nurturing and care—it is a divine calling that shapes entire generations. In a culture that prizes performance and perfection, Scripture draws our attention to a deeper impact: the influence of a mother’s faith. Mother’s Day’s message highlighted this through Lois and Eunice, who passed on their genuine, enduring faith to Timothy. The Apostle Paul credited these women with instilling in Timothy his calling, courage, and convictions. They didn’t simply raise a child; they raised a man of God.

We looked at two powerful truths: POWER and PASSION. First, we saw that a godly mother teaches her children to stand in God’s strength. A mother grounded in faith helps her children overcome fear by teaching them to trust in God more than themselves. Second, a mother loves with Christlike passion—agapē love that is sacrificial, steadfast, and rooted in relationship, not just rules. Lois and Eunice modeled these, laying the spiritual foundation for Timothy’s life and ministry. Last week, we looked at the third and final element of the ministry of motherhood, PERSPECTIVE.

3. PERSPECTIVE: She Shapes Their Mind for God’s Mission
Timothy needed a sound mind in a culture dominated by noise, distraction, and deception. He needed to think clearly, biblically, and eternally. And where was that shaped? At home, in the teaching and example of Lois and Eunice. They taught him how to think like a Christian before he ever led like one. What lived in Lois lived in Eunice. What lived in Eunice lived in Timothy. And what lives in you, mom—will live on in them! Let your legacy not be merely what you did, but how you thought—and how you taught your children to think, for the glory of God!
