Is This the End of the World?

A Selection of Scriptures | Pastor Winston Parrish

Matthew 24 addresses the tension believers feel when looking at a world marked by conflict, instability, and spiritual confusion. As the disciples ask about the end of the age, Jesus does not offer speculation but clarity, describing a world characterized by deception, wars, and increasing turmoil. These realities are not signs of chaos outside of God’s control, but evidence that history is unfolding exactly as He has declared. Rather than calling His followers to fear, Christ commands them to remain steady, grounded in truth, and not troubled by the conditions of the world.

The passage shifts from the condition of the world to the condition of the believer, emphasizing both the pressure faced by God’s people and the perseverance produced by genuine faith. While persecution, betrayal, and spiritual coldness will increase, those who truly belong to Christ will endure, sustained by His grace. Even in the midst of darkness, the mission remains unchanged—the gospel continues to advance until the appointed end. The focus is not on predicting timelines, but on living faithfully with confidence that Christ remains sovereign, His Word is true, and His return is certain.

1. The Peril of the Age
The age is marked by deception, conflict, and unrest, yet these events unfold according to God’s sovereign plan rather than random chaos. Believers are called to discern truth and remain untroubled, trusting that Christ has already declared what must come to pass.

2. The Pressure on the Saints
Followers of Christ will face increasing opposition, both from the world and within, as persecution, betrayal, and spiritual decline intensify. These pressures reveal the condition of the heart and test the genuineness of one’s faith.

3. The Perseverance of the Saved
True believers endure not by their own strength but by the sustaining grace of Christ, continuing in faith despite hardship. As they persevere, the gospel advances, and hope remains anchored in the certainty of Christ’s return.
