A Juniper Tree for You and for Me
1 Kings 18 & 19 | Pastor Winston Parrish
Elijah called for a moment of confrontation on Mount Carmel: The prophets of Baal cried out in vain; all day and all evening, and nothing was heard from their false god. Then Elijah responded with calm authority. He rebuilt the altar, drenched the sacrifice in water, and prayed just 63 words. God answered instantly, and fire fell from heaven. But, right after the fire falls, Elijah falls apart. He goes from calling down fire from heaven to wishing he were dead in the span of one chapter.

- The Calling When the Mission Still Matters: 1 Kings 19:13-14
God didn’t leave Elijah in the cave. He fed him. He listened to him, and He whispered to him. But then God sent him out. Why? Because there’s still purpose in your pain. You’re not forgotten. You’re not finished. God is not done using you. The broken still belong. The weary still matter. And the wounded can still be warriors. Elijah felt alone, depressed, deflated, discouraged, and empty, and in his mind, he was alone. But unbeknownst to Elijah, there are still 7,000 who believe in God and haven’t given up love for God!
A Juniper Tree for You and For Me: A place of collapse, where even the strongest admit weakness. A place of divine encounter, where God ministers gently. A symbol of grace in the wilderness, where God feeds him and lets him rest.
Jesus Christ is your Juniper Tree! When you’re weary and worn out, When you feel like you can’t carry one more thing, Jesus is enough. He is your rest, your shelter, your strength. He is The Savior, and you are not alone!
