Self is one of the greatest obstacles to seeing Christ clearly. The world continually encourages people to build their lives around themselves, yet Scripture points to a far different reality: we are not the center of the story. Paul describes believers as simple earthen vessels, ordinary and fragile, made valuable only by the treasure they contain. Every good thing in the Christian life comes from Christ, not from ourselves. A proper view of self replaces pride with humility, dependence, and surrender, recognizing that God alone teaches, provides, transforms, and empowers His people.

The greatest need is not to become more impressive, but to become more empty. Pride, ambition, fear, bitterness, the approval of others, worldly pursuits, and even religious activity can crowd the vessel until Christ is hidden beneath everything else that fills the heart. As self decreases, the beauty and power of Christ become increasingly visible. God is glorified not through strong people who rely on themselves, but through surrendered people who allow His power to shine through their weakness. We are only the clay. Christ is the treasure. God is the power. All the glory belongs to Him.
