The Spirit of the Family
Week 2 | Ephesians 5:18-21 | Pastor Winston Parrish
The health of a family is not ultimately determined by structure, routine, or personality, but by what governs the life within the home. Ephesians 5 reveals that God’s design for the family is not only that it be built on the right foundation, but that it operate under the continual control of the Holy Spirit. A home may appear ordered outwardly, yet still lack the spiritual life God intends. True stability comes when every member of the family lives under the influence of the Spirit, allowing the Word of Christ to shape thoughts, actions, and relationships.
Where the Spirit of God is present and in control, the atmosphere and interactions within the home are transformed. Worship, gratitude, and God-consciousness begin to define the climate of the family, while humility and submission shape how individuals relate to one another. The Spirit produces a tone that reflects Christ—not perfection, but a consistent pattern of surrender, grace, and reverence for God. A family built by God is not marked merely by outward order, but by inward transformation that affects every part of daily life.
