The Lord Will Do Wonders

Joshua 3:1-7 | Pastor Winston Parrish

Standing on the banks of the Jordan River, Israel faced a defining moment between the wilderness behind them and the promises of God before them. Unlike the previous generation that allowed fear and unbelief to keep them from entering Canaan, Joshua called the people to trust the Lord completely. Before God would perform wonders among them, they were instructed to follow His presence, prepare their hearts, and believe His promises. The same God who had been faithful in the past would once again do what only He could do.

God’s greatest works are accomplished when His people stop relying on their own strength and begin depending fully on Him. The crossing of the Jordan was never about Israel’s ability, but about God’s power and faithfulness. Every generation is faced with the choice to either repeat the unbelief of the past or move forward in faith, following where God leads with hearts prepared for His work. When God’s people pursue His presence, consecrate themselves, and trust His promises, they position themselves to witness the wonders that only the Lord can perform.

1. The Presence
Israel was instructed to follow the ark because it represented the presence of God leading the way. Victory comes by following God’s direction rather than relying on fear, past experiences, or human wisdom.

2. The Preparation
Before God performed wonders, He called His people to sanctify themselves. Hearts that are cleansed, surrendered, and ready for God are prepared to experience His work in ways that unbelief never will.

3. The Promise
The promise was never that Israel would accomplish great things on their own, but that the Lord would do wonders among them. God’s faithfulness remains greater than past failures, and His promises invite His people to move forward in faith.
