The Father That God Builds
Week 9 | Numbers 6:22-27 | Pastor Winston Parrish
God’s blessing was given to Israel before they reached the Promised Land, reminding them that they would need His presence not only at the destination but throughout the journey. As they traveled through the wilderness, facing uncertainty, temptation, and opposition, God instructed Aaron to speak a blessing over His people. In the same way, fathers are called to be spiritual leaders in the home, using their words and their lives to point their families toward the Lord. A godly father cannot save, protect, or preserve his family on his own, but he can faithfully lead them to the One who can.
The blessing of Numbers 6 reveals three desires every father should have for his family: God’s hand upon them, God’s face toward them, and God’s peace within them. More than providing for physical needs, fathers are called to pray for God’s protection, presence, grace, and peace in the lives of those they love. These words carry weight when they are supported by a life of humility, faithfulness, and dependence on Christ. The goal is not perfection, but a life that consistently points a family toward the goodness and faithfulness of God.
1. God’s Hand Upon Them — Numbers 6:24
A father should desire God’s protection and preserving power over his family, recognizing that his own strength and ability are limited. The greatest security for a home is not a father’s control, but God’s keeping hand.
2. God’s Face Toward Them — Numbers 6:25
Every family needs the presence and grace of God more than any earthly advantage. Fathers should pray for their children to know Christ personally and live in a way that demonstrates their own need for God’s grace.
3. God’s Peace Within Them — Numbers 6:26
True peace comes from being right with God and resting in Christ. Fathers should seek to cultivate homes marked by faith, humility, and dependence on the Lord so that their lives reinforce the blessing they speak over their families.
