Looking From the Lord’s Table

I Corinthians 11:23-29 | Pastor Winston Parrish

The Apostle Paul’s instruction in I Corinthians 11 is presented as a divine reminder to the church about the meaning and significance of the Lord’s Supper. Though the Corinthians had heard it before, Paul’s words—directly received from Christ—underscore the sacredness of this ordinance. The Lord’s Table is not merely a tradition, but a holy invitation for believers to remember Christ’s sacrifice, reflect on their hearts, and rejoice in His promised return. The bread and the cup are visible symbols of the Gospel: Christ’s sinless life and substitutionary death offered freely for sinners. As such, communion is a moment when eternity touches time—where past redemption, present communion, and future hope meet

Paul exhorts believers to approach the Lord’s Table with reverence, self-examination, and a renewed sense of faith. Participation in the Supper is not about ritual, but relationship—a declaration of belief and belonging to Christ. This sacred act calls us to remember the high cost of our salvation, to honestly assess our spiritual posture, and to look ahead with anticipation to the day we will feast with Christ in His kingdom. Communion is not for perfect people but for repentant ones—those who come in humility, gratitude, and surrender. Every time we partake, we are proclaiming not only that Jesus died, but that He is coming again.

1. Remember His Passion – I Corinthians 11:24-25
The Lord’s Supper calls us to intentionally remember Christ’s perfect life and sacrificial death, the true cost of our salvation.

2. Review Our Posture – I Corinthians 11:27-29
Believers must examine their hearts before partaking, approaching the Table with repentance, sincerity, and reverence.

3. Rejoice in His Promise – I Corinthians 11:26
Every act of communion is a declaration of hope in Christ’s return and a foretaste of the future celebration we will share with Him.
