Eternity, Part 5: Eternal Stewardship

II Corinthians 5:10 | Pastor Winston Parrish

Eternal salvation calls every believer to live as a faithful steward of all that God has entrusted—time, talent, treasure, and testimony. While salvation is a free gift through Christ, believers will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ—not for condemnation, but for evaluation and reward. This “bema” judgment, as described in 2 Corinthians 5:10, is where each Christian will give an account of how they lived their lives in light of eternal purpose. It’s a sobering reminder that every aspect of life matters and will be measured for its impact on God’s kingdom.

Central to this evaluation is our response to God’s Word, which Jesus emphasized in His prayer in John 17. The Word of God is the absolute truth—unchanging, authoritative, and the standard by which all will be judged. Jesus prayed for believers to be sanctified—set apart—by this truth. As stewards, we must recognize not only the responsibility to manage our resources wisely but also to uphold and live by the truth of Scripture. Our accountability before God will ultimately reflect how seriously we took His Word, not just in belief but in action and obedience.

1. The Authority of the Truth – Psalm 119:160
The Bible is the absolute, eternal, and final authority—divinely inspired, unchangeable, and the standard by which all will be judged—demanding not just reverence, but full submission in every aspect of a believer’s life.

2. The Application of the Truth – James 1:22
The truth of God’s Word must be believed, obeyed, and boldly defended—because merely hearing it without applying it leads to self-deception, while true faith is proven through action.

3. The Accountability to the Truth – Luke 12:48b
The more truth we have, the more accountable we are—making obedience essential, repentance urgent, and delay spiritually dangerous. God does not hold us accountable for what we do not know, but for the truth we do know and reject.
