Eternity, Part 3

A Selection of Scriptures | Pastor Winston Parrish

In parts 1 & 2, we read John 17:1-3, where Jesus, given power over all flesh, came to grant eternal life to those whom the Father has given Him.

Today, I want to build on this by making three declarative statements about eternal security. The assurance that those who are genuinely saved are eternally secure in Christ. Eternal security is a gift of grace, rooted in the sovereignty of God and evidenced by a transformed life. The reality of eternity should shape how we live our lives.

1. Genuine Salvation Cannot Be Lost
Genuine salvation is the only way to achieve eternal security and peace. It is a gift from God, given by grace through faith, and cannot be earned or lost. Human nature struggles with the concept of grace because it is unmerited and cannot be maintained through works. Genuine salvation is eternal salvation and cannot be lost!

2. Eternal Security is a Call to Holiness
Some people mistakenly believe that eternal security allows believers to live without consequences. However, true salvation results in a transformed life, characterized by growth in holiness and a desire to obey Christ. If someone claims to be saved but shows no evidence of a relationship with Christ, it indicates they were never truly saved. Eternal security should motivate Godly living, not excuse sin.

3. Eternal Security Produces Confidence
Many believers experience doubt and fear about their salvation, questioning if they’ve done enough or if they might lose it. However, salvation is based on Christ’s finished work, not our own efforts. Believers can live confidently, knowing that the same power that saved them also keeps them secure in Christ, allowing them to walk in confidence, boldness, and joy.
