Emmanuel, Worshipped

Week 3 | Matthew 2:1-12 | Pastor Winston Parrish

The revelation of Jesus Christ always produces a response, and Matthew’s account of the wise men shows how humanity reacts when Emmanuel is made known. While Herod responds with hostility and religious leaders respond with indifference, God sovereignly draws true worshippers to His Son. Long before the star appeared over Bethlehem, God had planted truth in the soil of a pagan world through faithful testimony, preserving His Word across generations until the appointed time of fulfillment arrived.

When Christ is revealed, God draws sinners from darkness into light and leads them to worship—not through coercion, but through divine illumination. The wise men follow the light God provides, journeying far from comfort and familiarity to bow before a Child who outwardly bears no signs of earthly power. Their response demonstrates that worship is rooted not in circumstance or spectacle, but in recognition of who Christ truly is. Emmanuel is revealed as worthy of worship from every nation, and God ensures that His Son is honored as King, God, and Redeemer.

1. Seed Was Planted
God preserved truth through faithful witnesses long before Christ’s birth, ensuring that His Word would bear fruit at the appointed time. The wise mens’ worship reveals the enduring power of God’s promises across generations.

2. Sinners Were Drawn
God sovereignly used divine light to draw Gentile seekers to His Son, demonstrating that salvation extends beyond the boundaries of Israel. Those who follow His light are led faithfully to Christ.

3. The Savior Was Worshipped
Upon encountering Jesus, the wise men respond with worship, obedience, and sacrificial giving, acknowledging His kingship, deity, and redemptive purpose. True worship results in changed direction and a life shaped by obedience to God’s leading.
