Ye Must Be Born Again

John 3:1-7 | Pastor Winston Parrish

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, a man of great religious stature and authority in Israel. As a member of the Sanhedrin, he was well-versed in the Law of Moses and the spiritual traditions of the Jewish people. He had dedicated his life to the rigorous study of Scripture and the practice of religious law. He had memorized the Law of Moses and could quote Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy from memory.

Nicodemus had everything together religiously. He was respected, devout, and committed to his faith. Yet, despite all his religious knowledge and status, Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, seeking answers. Something was missing in his life.

Nicodemus was empty! Nothing he knew had provided the peace, assurance, or understanding of God he longed for.

1. The Necessity of the New Birth
There is no other way, there isn’t a grey area or a special designation. Ye must be born again!

2. The Nature of the New Birth
The new birth comes from God alone; it is not inherited, nor can it be attained through human effort. Ye must be born again!

3. The Nurturing of the New Birth
New life must be nurtured! When someone is truly born again, their life will begin to reflect that new nature, but it requires nurturing through Scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.
